Raheem Morris & Richard Smith Headed To Atlanta

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that the Broncos LBs coach Richard Smith has officially agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Falcons to join Dan Quinn’s coaching staff.

Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports that Redskins DBs coach Raheem Morris has verbally accepted the job of assistant head coach with the Atlanta Falcons.

  • Breer adds that Morris will run the team’s pass defense next season.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that when Dan Quinn takes over as the Falcons new head coach, he’s hoping to bring Broncos LBs coach Richard Smith with him.
  • According to Breer, Smith will likely be the Falcons defensive coordinator and handle the team’s run defense.

Morris to the Falcons seemed like a foregone conclusion for the past few days, so this news really shouldn’t come as a major surprise.

It is, however, interesting that the Falcons could break up coordinator duties to some degree between run and pass defense.

Quinn is expected to officially take over as the team’s head coach the day after the Super Bowl.

Breer mentions that Quinn’s coaching staff in Atlanta should be a large group, so I’m sure we’ll be hearing much more about potential targets for the Falcons in the coming days.
