Report: Raiders Amenable To Switching Conferences To Complete Move To Los Angeles

According to Jason Cole, Raiders owner Mark Davis has offered up an idea to the NFL to make his franchise a more attractive option for relocation to Los Angeles.

Cole, citing multiple sources, reports that Davis told the league that the Raiders would be willing to swap with an NFC West team, to avoid the complication of having two teams in Los Angeles in the same division.

  • Cole speculated that the team switching back to the AFC could be Seattle.

This scenario of course, would be solely predicated on the idea that two teams would move to Los Angeles –the Chargers and the Raiders– which has been the subject of wide speculation.  The league would like to keep two teams within one city split into different conferences.

The third team often mentioned for relocation is the Rams.  Cole notes that owner Stan Kroenke would want Los Angeles to himself, thus any potential conference re-alignment issue would likely be avoided.

While this news appears to be in its infancy, it is certainly noteworthy that the league views two Los Angeles teams in one division as a problem.  This information lends itself to the idea that two teams instead of one, could in fact be relocating.

  1. The Rams should just move to Anaheim so the Raiders can move to LA and everyone can keep their conferences. {{-_-}}

  2. First off, I don’t believe two teams will move to LA. One is going to end up the little sister like the Clippers were all those years. Second, it just goes to show how little Mark Davis knows about football that he would even consider moving the Raiders away from their long time rivalries.

  3. I don’t blame them. KC, SD and Denver. Even if they were half decent, they would still be the whipping boys of the division.
