Raiders Only Willing To Re-Sign RB Darren McFadden If His Market “Bottoms Out”

Update:

Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area reports that although the Raiders are keeping the door open to a possible return for RB Darren McFadden, they would only do so “at the right price.”

  • Bair adds that the McFadden’s market would probably have to “bottoms out” for him McFadden be back.
  • Bair doesn’t see the Raiders paying all that much for him on the open market.

HC Dennis Allen appeared to indicate that re-signing Rashad Jennings was likely to be a higher priority for the cap-rich Raiders this offseason.

We have both Jennings and McFadden listed in our Top 100 Free Agents list.

Gil Brandt of the NFL Network reports that the agent for Raiders RB Darren McFadden has informed him that he will be meeting with the team to discuss a new contract this Saturday.

This is, of course, somewhat interesting considering that many expected the Raiders to move on without McFadden next year.

McFadden has had a number of disappointing seasons with the Raiders, which can be attributed the number of injuries he’s dealt with during this time. McFadden’s most productive stretch came under Hue Jackson, in which he ran for 1,771 yards (5.27 YPC) and 11 touchdowns over the course of 20 games.

McFadden has missed 29 games since entering the NFL six years ago. On top of that, his yards-per-carry have dropped off considerably in the Raiders new offensive scheme, which means there is a decent enough chance he’ll be forced to sign a modest contract this offseason.

Some have mentioned the Bengals as a speculative landing spot now that Hue Jackson is running their offense.
