Report: Raiders Naming Tony Sparano Interim Head Coach

Jim Trotter of ESPN reports that the Oakland Raiders are scheduling a press conference for 2pm to announce that Tony Sparano will take over as the interim head coach now that they have fired Dennis Allen.

The Raiders were reportedly considering Al Saunders and OC Greg Olsen for the position as well, but Sparano was widely expected to get the job.

Sparano was with the Dolphins for four seasons and led them to a 29-33 record, which included a playoff appearance. He’s unlikely to be a long-term solution for the Raiders, but he at least does have prior experience running an NFL team.

Multiple reports have come out that Oakland is targeting Jon Gruden to return to the Raiders as their next head coach, so this figures to be a short stint for Sparano as the team’s head coach.
