Report: Raiders Will Start QB Matt Flynn Sunday

Update:

Jay Glazer reports that Raiders players were informed last night that Matt Flynn will be their starting quarterback on Sunday against the Redskins.

This comes in contrast to a report from Saturday night as well that mentioned Terrelle Pryor was going to be their starting quarterback.

Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Oakland Raiders will start QB Terrelle Pryor Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

Pryor sustained a concussion just six days ago, but has recovered quite well since then. Matt Flynn received most of the teams reps in practice this week, but Pryor was able to get some limited work in on Thursday and Friday.

According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the Oakland Raiders and quarterback Terrelle Pryor are both “optimistic” that he will be fully recovered in time to play in their Week 4 game against the Washington Redskins.

Pryor still needs to pass one more phase of the league’s concussion protocol, but he was able to put in a limited practice on Friday.

“I like the progress that I have seen out of him over the last few days,” HC Dennis Allen said. “We’re going to still continue to monitor him but he’s made some significant progress. I like where he is at mentally.”

Allen later indicated that Pryor’s remaining concussion test is precautionary.

It’s not something that has to be done,” Allen said, the Oakland Tribune“It’s something that we want to do to make sure. I want to make sure we’re making the right decision for this kid.”

Pryor is currently listed as questionable, but he will most likely be a game-time decision on Sunday. If Pryor is to sit, Oakland would be forced to roll with Matt Flynn at the helm. For a struggling Redskins defense, having Flynn in for Pryor might be answered prayer for Washington.
