Report: Raiders Prepared To Make Sweeping Changes Including Parting With GM Reggie McKenzie

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Oakland Raiders are preparing for sweeping changes that involve parting ways with GM Reggie McKenzie.

  • According to Schefter, Raiders owner Mark Davis is “getting ready to spend.”

Schefter doesn’t specify what the Raiders are prepared to spend on, but hopefully this won’t be the type of spending that led to the major cap issues they were in before McKenzie took the job.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Raiders are prepared to make a serious run at 49ers HC Jim Harbaugh, and the fact that they are willing to part ways with McKenzie would likely only help their chances of adding Harbaugh in a trade.

McKenzie deserves plenty of criticism for the current state of the franchise. He probably stuck with Dennis Allen too long and his free agent spending has left the team much older than a rebuilding team should be.

Some had mentioned that McKenzie’s one saving grace could be his 2014 draft class, which has paid higher dividends than almost any draft class in the NFL this year.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing much more about sweeping changes in Oakland in the coming weeks.
