Update:

The Oakland Raiders officially released veteran OLB LaMarr Woodley on Thursday.

Fallon Smith of CSNBayArea.com reports that the Oakland Raiders will release veteran OLB LaMarr Woodley at some point this week.

The Raiders were facing a decision regarding Woodley’s $1 million roster bonus that was done on March 14, so it appears as though Oakland would prefer to use the money elsewhere.

Woodley, 30, wound up signing a two-year contract worth $12 million with the Raiders last March. The agreement included $4,350,000 guaranteed, and he would have made a base salary of $3.85 million for the upcoming season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Woodley will free up $5,187,500 in available cap space for the Raiders while creating no dead money.

In 2014, Woodley recorded just five tackles over the course of six games. He year was cut short after he sustained a season-ending biceps injury.

Given that Woodley is still only thirty, there’s a chance he could be a value signing for a team a team looking to add some depth to their pass-rush unit.

  1. I would let him play out this last season on his contract…he should be healthy and well rested and he is probably now what the Raiders thought he would be last season…we use him in rotation obvious passing situations and if hes healthy i know this guy can go get the QB .or at least see how hes looking in camp before letting him walk…i hate to let talent go before he had shot now he is healthy that is huge for not just him but for the team

No he couldn’t. Dude hasn’t been a decent addition to anything since 2009.

    • Fair point. I stand corrected. He hasn’t posted double digit sacks since 2009 and hasn’t played full season since 2010. It’s unlikely that he’ll command much in terms of salary, so I would be surprised to see a few teams show interest in him over the next few weeks.
