Report: Raiders & Steelers Among Teams With Interest In TE Jermichael Finley

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Raiders and Steelers are among the teams to have shown interest in free agent TE Jermichael Finley.

Rapoport adds that Finley visited with the Steelers and has been cleared by their team doctor, who ultimately performed his spinal fusion surgery.

Earlier in the day, Mike Freeman of the Bleacher Report reported that there are a “half-dozen teams in quiet pursuit” of Finley, but he didn’t offer any details regarding teams who could be interested outside of the Patriots.

  • Freeman adds that “the belief around the sport” is that Finley will eventually sign a minimal salary contract for some team.
  • Freeman expects this team to be the Patriots, who actually brought Finley in for a visit late last week.

The Giants and Packers have also come up as potential options for Finley, but there hasn’t been much traction regarding these two teams in recent days.

Finley is coming off of a spinal fusion surgery, but his agent, Blake Baratz, told Pro Football Talk on Thursday of last week that his client has received full medical clearance.

Oakland GM Reggie McKenzie is obviously more than familiar with Finley from his time in Green Bay. They could also really use some help at tight end given that they currently have David Ausberry and Mychal Rivera as their top two options.

We have Finley listed as the No. 1 player in our recently updated Top 50 – Best Available Free Agents list.
