Report: Randall Cobb Could Be Targeting As Much As $12M Per Year

A source tells Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the word around the NFL Combine a few weeks ago was that Packers WR Randall Cobb was targeting a contract that would pay him $12 million per year.

• Mike Garafolo has heard the same regarding Cobb’s asking price.

Silverstein mentions that the Packers may have set a ceiling of $10 million per year for Cobb, which would be in line with that they gave Jordy Nelson last year.

On Monday, the Packers did not use either their franchise or transition tag to keep Cobb in Green Bay for another season, but at a steep cost.

Recent reports have said that the Packers haven’t given up on re-signing Cobb.

However, prospective teams will be able to meet with Cobb this Saturday, which means the Packers are running out of time before they would be forced to compete with some teams that have a ton of cap space to spend.

There is a good chance that this situation could go down to the final hours before the start of free agency, which is what happened last year with CB Sam Shields.

Cobb is really one of the more interesting free agents in this year’s class given that there will be a ton of interest from cap-rich teams like the Raiders, Browns and Jaguars, which could may it difficult for the Packers to retain him at a market-value price.

Cobb, 24, played out his four-year, $3,209,421 rookie contract and is clearly in position for a sizable raise this offseason.

In 2014, Cobb caught 91 passes for 1,287 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns. He also contributed as the team’s punt returner this year. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 wide receiver out of 110 qualifying players.
