Report: Ravens & Dennis Pitta “Far Apart” In Contract Talks, Also Talking To Eugene Monroe

Update:

Aaron Wilson reports that the Ravens have begun contract talks with impending free agents TE Dennis Pitta and LT Eugene Monroe, but talks are not in the “advanced stage” at this point.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens and impending free agent TE Dennis Pitta are “far apart” regarding a long-term contract extension.

  • Wilson’s source mentioned that the Ravens could end up using their franchise tag on Pitta if they are not able to make progress towards an agreement in the coming weeks.
  • Pitta is expected to file a grievance that would argue he should be paid similar to a wide receiver and not a tight end, according to the source.

Current projections have the wide receiver tag $11.5 million with the tight end figure coming in at $6.709 million.

Wilson adds that the Ravens have held “preliminary talks” with LT Eugene Monroe and view him as an offseason “priority.”

Baltimore should have close to $16 million in available cap space to work with following the Terrell Suggs‘ extension.

We have Pitta and Monroe both listed in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
