Report: Ravens & LT Eugene Monroe “Far Apart” In Contract Talks

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens and free agent LT Eugene Monroe are still “far apart” in contract negotiations.

  • Wilson’s source added that the two parties are “highly motivated to hammer out a deal and some progress has been made” in recent days.
  • Even so, a “significant gap” still remains in regards to financial compensation.

Baltimore has managed to get TE Dennis Pitta under contract, but it appears as though Monroe won’t be easy to retain.

The Ravens have reportedly considered the idea of franchising Monroe, but it’s hard to say if this is really an option for them, as it would cost them $11.654 million fully guaranteed.

Monroe, 26, was able to step in and play very well for the Ravens at position of need for them. Trades rarely produce immediate results in the NFL, so there is something to be said about Monroe’s performance last season.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 qualifying left tackle in the league. We have both Monroe and Albert listed in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
