Report: Ravens Previously Offered Torrey Smith A Five-Year, $35M Deal

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that before the start of the 2014 season, he had heard that the Ravens offered WR Torrey Smith a five-year contract worth $35 million with $19 million guaranteed.

  • La Canfora doesn’t say whether or not this deal is still on the table for Smith, but he believes a $7 million annual salary is “very fair.

La Canfora mentions that Smith could be an interesting free agent to keep an eye on, especially if big names like Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas end up being franchised.

The receiver market also includes Randall Cobb and Jeremy Maclin, but those two could be under contract before the start of free agency, which would leave Smith as one of, if not, the best available receivers.

Smith, 25, finished up his four-year, $3,389,232 million rookie contract with the Ravens and will now be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

Over the course of 16 games, Smith caught 49 passes for 767 yards and a career best 11 touchdowns. His yardage totals are done from last year when posted 65 receptions for 1,128 yards receiving.

Pro Football Focus has Smith rated as the No. 37 receiver out of 110 qualifying players. We have him listed as the No. 35 player in our Top 75 – NFL Free Agents.
