Ravens Trade ILB Rolando McClain To The Cowboys

Update:

The Cowboys officially announced that they have traded for ILB Rolando McClain on Wednesday.

According to the Cowboys’ release, they will send the Ravens their 2015 sixth-round pick in McClain plays 50 percent of the defensive snaps this season. If this ends up being the case, the Ravens will also send the Cowboys their 2015 seventh-round pick.

However, if McClain plays less than 50 percent of the team’s snaps, but is on the 53-man roster for five games or the 46-man roster for three games, the two teams will swap 2016 seventh-round selections.

McClain, 24, has already been reinstated from the reserve-retired list. Dallas will pick up McClain’s contract that is worth $700,000 and includes another $400,000 in incentives based on playing time.

He hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2012, but there is still time for the former first-round pick to get things turned around if he’s committed to getting into shape.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Ravens have traded ILB Rolando McClain to the Cowboys.

  • According to Schefter, that the Cowboys are sending a sixth-round pick to the Ravens in return for McClain and a seventh-round pick.
  • Clarence Hill reports that the sixth-round pick the Cowboys are sending to the Ravens is a conditional pick that is based on playing time.
  • Multiple reports have confirmed that MLB Sean Lee has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Baltimore placed McClain on the reserve-retired list for the second time in as many years a few months ago and it appeared as though his NFL career could be coming to an end.

The Cowboys could obviously use some help at middle linebacker now that Sean Lee suffered a torn ACL, but, it’s hard to say McClain will be able to play a meaningful role for them this year.

Dallas has maintained that they prepared to move forward with the options currently on their roster and had Justin Durant competing with rookie Anthony Hitchens for playing time during offseason workouts. However, it appears as though they are no longer confident in their depth.

McClain, 24, worked out for the Ravens back in April after he was reinstated, but the workout reportedly didn’t go all that well as he was unable to finish his conditioning test and did not participate in drills.
