Report: Ray Rice To Appeal Indefinite Suspension

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing multiple league sources, reports that Ray Rice will appeal his indefinite suspension on Monday.

  • Florio adds that the appeal will be handled by the NFL Player Association and an outside lawyer, who will be retained by Rice.

Interestingly enough, Roger Goodell would handle this appeal given that Rice’s suspension falls under the personal-conduct policy.

Florio expects Rice and the NFLPA to ask that Goodell select someone else that has no current connection to the league office to handle the appeal.

Goodell actually agreed to do this during the Saints Bounty Scandal from a few years ago, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see him agree to this.

According to Florio, Goodell would likely be a witness in the appeal process, due to the fact that there is some confusion regarding whether or not Rice lied to the Ravens and/or the NFL about what actually took place during the incident that involved his then-fiancee.

We’ll have more updates regarding this situation as the news is available.
