Redskins Placing Brian Orakpo On Season-Ending Injured Reserve

Update:

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Redskins will place OLB Brian Orakpo on season-ending injured reserve in the coming days.

With Orakpo playing out the 2014 season under the franchise tag, there is a possibility that he’s played his final snap for the Redskins.

Over the course of seven games, Orakpo has recorded 24 tackles and a half sack. We have Orakpo listed as the No. 14 player in our recently updated Top 25 – 2015 Free Agents list.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Redskins “fear” OLB Brian Orakpo is done for the season with a pectoral injury.

  • Rapoport adds that the team is still waiting for the MRI results regarding Orakpo.
  • Pro Football Talk reports that Orakpo has a torn pectoral muscle.

For what it’s worth, David Chao, a former team doctor, mentions that a player that has torn one tears pectoral tendon has a higher chance of tearing the other side.

Chao also points out that there is a big difference between a pectoral tendon tear and a pectoral muscle tear as an injury to tendon is more likely to cost him the rest of the season.

Patriots LB Jerod Mayo suffered a torn pectoral muscle that required surgery and New England wound up placing him on injured reserve, so we’ll have to see just how sever the injury is before offering any kind of timetable for Orakpo’s return.

Orakpo, 28, will make $11.455 million for the 2014 season, but he is obviously hoping to secure a long-term deal next year.
