Report: “Highly Doubftul” Redskins Re-Sign OLB Brian Orakpo Today

Update:

Mark Maske reports that it’s “highly doubtful” that the Redskins and free agent OLB Brian Orakpo will reach an agreement on a long-term deal today.

We’re still waiting to hear whether or not Washington will use their franchise tag on Orakpo before today’s deadline.

We’ll have more regarding Orakpo and the Redskins as the news is available.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that the Washington Redskins are still working on a contract extension for free agent OLB Brian Orakpo, but are prepared to use franchise tag if a deal is not reached before 4 pm est today.

  • Mark Maske reports that the Redskins haven’t given Orakpo a firm indication if he’ll be franchised before today’s deadline.

Reports from over the weekend indicated that the team was undecided as to whether or not the franchise tag was an option for them, but it seemed like Washington was leaning towards not using it.

Orakpo finished the 2013 season with 10 sacks and has 39.5 career sacks in just 64 games for the Redskins defense and is clearly one of the best edge rushers set to be an unrestricted free agent. He would have no shortage of suitors if he were to become available.

We have Orakpo listed as the No. 4 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.
