Report: Rey Maualuga Out 3-4 Weeks With Sprained MCL

Adam Schefter reports that Cincinnati Bengals LB Rey Maualuga is expected to miss three-to-four weeks due to a sprained MCL.

Maualuga left Sunday’s win over the Jets after colliding with Chris Ivory. It initially appeared as though Maualuga’s injury was quite serious given that he went limp after the collision, so it is clearly great news that he only has a sprained MCL.

Despite Maualuga ranking No. 45 for ILB’s by Pro Football Focus, he sits second on the team in tackles (41) and has helped lead Cincinnati to top-10 defense ranking this season.

Vontaze Burfict has been playing really well this season and could be moved to middle linebacker while Maualuga is out. Michael Boley will likely man the weak side if Burfict is to move positions, and Vincent Rey is also a candidate for an increased reps moving forward.
