Report: Rod Marinelli Expected To Become Buccaneers Defensive Coordinator

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Cowboys DC Rod Marinelli is expected to depart and accept the defensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  • Florio mentions that it’s unclear what this would mean for current Bucs defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

Marinelli is among a number of Cowboy’s coaches who in the final year of their current deals and will be free agents in the next few weeks.

There has been talk for several months now that Marinelli was likely headed to Tampa Bay to join his good friend Lovie Smith, so this really shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

Marinelli and Smith worked together during stops in Tampa Bay and Chicago. However, after the Bears fired Smith a few years ago, Marinelli left to become the defensive line coach of the Cowboys before being promoted to defensive coordinator for the 2014 season.

We’ll have more regarding Marinelli joining the Buccaneers.
