Report: Roger Goodell Made $44M In The Last 12 Months

Daniel Kaplan of the Sports Business Journal reports that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was paid $35.1 million in salary and another $9.1 million in deferred pay from 2012 in the last 12 months.

  • Kaplan adds that Goodell’s salary the year before that was $29.5 million salary.

According to Kalpan, Goodell is likely the highest paid sports executive in the United States and should top or at least come close to MLB commissioner Bud Selig.

NFL team owners who spoke with Kaplan indicated that Goodell’s “true pay” for this period of time was around $35 million.

“Goodell’s compensation reflects our pay-for-performance philosophy and is appropriate given the fact that the NFL under his consistently strong leadership continues to grow,” NFL owners Arthur BlankRobert Kraft and Jerry Richardson wrote in a letter to their fellow owners that is scheduled to be e-mailed friday afternoon.

Kalpan also mentions that former NFL Media executive Steve Bornstein earned $26.1 million during the same period of time as $19.6 million of which came from the appreciation value of the NFL Network.
