Report: Ravens Haven’t Approached RT Michael Oher Regarding An Extension

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens haven’t approached free agent RT Michael Oher about a new contract, and aren’t expected to do so in the days leading up to free agency.

  • Wilson adds that Baltimore remain focused on re-signing free agent LT Eugene Monroe, who did not receive the team’s franchise tag on Monday.

It has been long expected that Oher would be out of Baltimore, so this news really isn’t all that surprising. Oher has really struggled in recent years, so the writing has essentially been on the wall for some time now.

Oher, 27, was rated as the No. 68 overall offensive tackle in 2013 while allowing eight sacks and 42 quarterback hurries, according to Pro Football Focus.

Since his exceptional rookie campaign in 2009, Oher has twice allowed double-digit sacks and has since been rated in the bottom half of offensive tackles the past two seasons.

The good news for Oher is that there are still a number of NFL teams who could use some depth at offensive tackle, so I’m sure he’ll at least have a modest market in the next few weeks.
