Report: Saints Close To Re-Signing WR Robert Meachem

Bill Williamson of ESPN.com reports that veteran WR Robert Meachem is “on the verge” of re-signing with the New Orleans Saints.

Meachem was recently cut loose by the Chargers after what was a disastrous stint with San Diego. Some reports indicated that Meachem’s physical condition was a major issue and his body was beginning to let him down.

The Saints could obviously some additional help at receiver, but Meachem has shown nothing in the past few months to prove that he’s capable of being an effective weapon. New Orleans has done a great job in the past of getting average players to produce in their system, so we’ll have to see how things go, assuming of course that a deal is finalized.
