Report: Saints Agree To Terms With Veteran C Jonathan Goodwin

Update:

Mike Triplett of ESPN.com, citing a league source, reports that the Saints have agreed to terms with veteran C Jonathan Goodwin

  • Triplett adds that the deal should be finalized by Tuesday.

Goodwin, 35, recently worked out for New Orleans and reports indicated that a deal was likely to get done this week.

Last year, Goodwin was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 15 center in the league, which was largely due to his above-average run-blocking ability.

We had Goodwin rated No. 15 in our recently updated Top 50 – Best Available Free Agents list.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Saints are expected to sign veteran C Jonathan Goodwin at some point this week.

  • Mike Triplett of ESPN.com previously reported that there was a “good chance” the Saints would sign Goodwin at some point this summer, so this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

Goodwin worked out for the team a few weeks ago, but there hasn’t been a lot of buzz since then. The Saints didn’t come away from the draft with a center prospect, but the team reportedly has faith in second-year C Tim Lelito, who appears to be their projected starter.
