Mike Garafolo reports that the agent for Saints restricted free agent S Rafael Bush has confirmed that New Orleans has matched the Falcons offer sheet for his client.
Bush posted on his Twitter account that he was still a Saint a few minutes ago.
- Ramon Vargas of the New Orleans Advocate previously reported that the Falcons offer sheet out to Bush is a two-year contract worth a maximum value of $4.5 million.
According to Vargas’ source, Bush was hoping that the Saints would not much Atlanta’s offer sheet as the Falcons were reportedly offering a chance to be their starting safety opposite of William Moore.
“Atlanta is a better situation for Rafael Bush to have a starting role in the defense,” said Vargas’ source. “It is a better situation for his career and for his family.”
The Saints extended Bush an original-pick tender back in early March. Bush would have made $1.431 million by playing out the 2014 season under the tender.
Last year, Bush appeared in 13 games for the Saints and totaled 42 tackles, a fumble recovery and five pass defenses.
