Sean Payton Refutes Report That RB Mark Ingram Could Be Traded

New Orleans Saints HC Sean Payton told reporters that rumors regarding a possible Mark Ingram trade are “completely false,” via the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

  • Payton added that the report itself has “zero credibility.

Ingram missed Week 3’s game against Arizona due to a toe injury. He still hasn’t shown any signs of being a legitimate No. 1 running back, so even though the coaching staff has denied that he’s able available, you would have to think they would consider the parting with him before the trade deadline if the right deal came along.

Jason La Canfora of ESPN reports that New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram could seek a trade out of New Orleans in the weeks leading up the NFL trade deadline.

Ingram is currently third on the Saint’s depth chart, which includes a total of five running backs. The Saints have Ingram sharing carries with Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles, so this isn’t exactly the type of role you draw up for a guy they traded up to get in the 2011 draft.

A change of scenery would likely benefit all parties in this case, as there’s questions as to how Ingram fits into their offensive scheme. We’ll have to see if a market develops for him in the next few weeks and if the Saints are willing to field offers for him.

  1. Heisman Trophy winning running backs have never been a sure thing! The Saints have had three and they were all bad decisions.

You can count on one hand those that made a difference for their drafting team. Paul Horning, OJ Simpson are the only ones I can recall.

    • You must not watch much football. There have been many GREAT Heisman trophy winning running backs in the N.F.L..What about Earl Campbell,Marcus Allen,Barry Sanders,Eddie George, just to name a few. Saints picks George Rodgers & Ricky Williams may not have been a H.O.Fers but they was not even close to being a bust. Do some research before you make such post.
