Sean Payton’s New Contract Makes Him The Highest Paid NFL Coach?

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Sean Payton‘s contract extension is “believed” to pay him more than $8 million annually. If true, Payton would likely become the highest-paid coach in the league, according to Werder.

Payton was among the highest paid NFL coaches with his previous deal, so it’s really not surprising to see the Saints step up and ensure that he remains with the franchise long-term.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that the New Orleans Saints and head coach Sean Payton have “agreed in principle” on a five-year contract.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter adds that the deal is similar to the deal that the two sides agreed upon last year and will keep him in New Orleans through the 2017 season.

The deal should be finalized once Payton’s suspension is lifted, which comes after this year’s Super Bowl. This should put to rest the speculation that Payton could become the next head coach of the Cowboys.
