Report: Seahawks CB Walter Thurmond Facing A Four-Game Suspension

Update:

Dave Mahler of KJR 950 Seattle reports that sources have informed him that Seahawks CB Walter Thurmond‘s suspension is for a positive marijuana test.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports that Seahawks CB Walter Thurmond is facing a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

According to Rapoport, Thurmond suspension is not for performance-enhancing drugs, as was the case with both Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman last season.

As of now, Thurmond is appealing the decision, but there is a chance that he could drop his appeal once in order to be back in time for a playoff run.

The suspension is a significant loss for a Seahawks’ defense that is already without Browner for four to six weeks due to a groin injury. This means they will need to rely on either Jeremy Lane or Byron Maxwell while Thurmond is out.

One other aspect to consider regarding Thurmond’s suspension is the fact that he’s set to become a free agent following the season. While there figures to still be plenty of interest in him on the open market, it will at the very least be a consideration from prospective teams.

We have Thurmond listed as the No. 18 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
