Report: Seahawks LT Russell Okung Has A Torn Labrum

Aaron Levine of Q13 FOX, citing team sources, is reporting that Seahawks LT Russell Okung has a torn labrum in his shoulder.

  • According to Levine, Okung suffered the injury during the Seahawks’ Week 3 game against the Denver Broncos, and has been playing through the injury.
  • Levine adds that Okung’s injury is believed to be “significant,” but that there is no official word as of now regarding the extent of the injury.

The Seahawks are coming off of a tough loss to the Dallas Cowboys and there is no question that Okung is their best offensive lineman when healthy.

Last year, Okung was placed on injured reserve with designation to return after tore a ligament in his toe, so there are some concerns about his durability moving forward.

Okung, 26, is entering the fifth year of his six-year, $48.5 million contract that includes $30 million guaranteed. He has base salaries of $8.76 million and a very reasonable $4.8 million coming his way over the next two years.

There has been talk Okung could one of the next players in line for a contract extension, but it appears likely that Seattle will wait until at least next year to consider the idea.

We’ll have more updates regarding Okung’s injury as the news is available.
