Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch Holding Out For New Contract

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that there’s a “zero percent chance” of Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch attending training camp unless he receives a new extension that would replace the final two years of his current contract.

Florio’s source added that discussions between the two parties have been ongoing for a few months now. However, Seattle has reportedly resisted giving Lynch a new deal just for the simple fact that it would set a precedent for future situations.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports mentioned earlier in the day that a similar raise to the one Jamaal Charles received from the Chiefs earlier in the week — $5 million total added his 2014 and 2015 salaries — would probably be enough to get him to report to camp.

Lynch, 28, is entering the third year of his four-year, $31 million contract. As things stand right now, he is set to make a base salary of $5 million to go along with $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses.

Seattle is already paying Lynch a top-five salary in terms of APY ($7.5 million) and guaranteed ($17 million) money, so they could hold firm and see how things situation plays out.

Last year, Lynch appeared in all 16 games and ran for 1,257 yards on 301 carries (4.2 YPC) and scored 14 total touchdowns.

Marshawn Lynch has informed former Seahawks FB Michael Robinson that he intends to hold out of training camp for a new contract.

“Marshawn Lynch just called me, we just talked,” Robinson said while appearing on the NFL Network Thursday. “He said he will be holding out from training camp this year with the Seahawks.”

• Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Seahawks became aware of Lynch’s intentions to hold out for a new contract in the past few days, but they still have no plans of increasing his salary.

Lynch could end up losing $30,000 in fines for every day of training camp he skips, but I’m sure he’s well aware of the risks with taking this course of action.
