Report: Some Steelers Limited Partners Plan To Lobby For HC Mike Tomlin To Be Fired

A source tells Jason La Canfora that the odds of Tomlin being pushed out as head coach of the Steelers by minority owners or otherwise are “zero percent.”

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that some of the Steelers’ limited partners plan to lobby owner Art Rooney to fire of HC Mike Tomlin and to hire a new coach.

According to Florio, the limited partners have no authority over the management of the team. However, they do speak with Rooney and Florio says that they plan to utilize this to try to convince the team to make a coaching change.

Florio says that the issues with Tomlin including decision-making in key moments of the game, which is something Tomlin and the Steelers have struggled with in recent years. Beyond that, Florio says these partners are also concerned about the team’s lack of discipline with the Facebook live situation involving WR Antonio Brown being a prime example.

Sources have told Florio that there’s a sense that the Steelers are underachieving under Tomlin and there’s plenty of talent in place for them to get back to the Super Bowl.

Tomlin, 45, was hired as the Steelers head coach back in 2007 and managed to win a Super Bowl in just his second year with the franchise. Pittsburgh signed him to a contract extension through the 2020 season last year, so he does have another three years left on his deal.

During his 11 years as Steelers’ head coach, Tomlin has led the team to a record of 116-60 (65.9 percent), which includes eight playoff appearances, two trips to the Super Bowl and one Championship in 2008.
