Steelers Releasing OT Levi Brown & LB Larry Foote

The Steelers announced the release of veteran OT Levi Brown and LB Larry Foote on Wednesday.

Foote, 33, has come up as a potential cap casualty in recent months as the Steelers work to get under the cap. Foote had two years remaining on his three-year, $5.5 million contract and would have made $1.5 million in each of the next two seasons.

  • His cap figure was $1,833,333 and the Steelers will free up $1,166,666 by cutting him loose, according to OverTheCap.com.

Brown, 29, came over in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals last year. He still had three years remaining on his five-year, $30 million contract and would have made $6 million for the 2014 season.

  • Brown had a $6.25 million cap figure and the team will save just as much by releasing him, according to OverTheCap.com.

He was placed on season-ending injured reserve last year with a triceps injury.

The total cap saving from these two moves and the release of CB Curtis Brown is $8.395 million in cash, $6.8 million in net cap space, according to Brian McIntyre.
