Report: Teams Believe 49ers Are Willing To Trade TE Vernon Davis

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that numerous teams have contacted the 49ers about possibly trading TE Vernon Davis.

According to La Canfora, the feeling among teams who’ve spoke to the 49ers is that he could be had. However, La Canfora doesn’t offer any specifics as to what San Francisco is looking for in return for the former first-round pick.

Last we heard, La Canfora reported that “several” teams were in the process of exploring upgrades at tight end ahead of the trade deadline and the two players that had come up were Davis and Rams TE Jared Cook.

Since then, the Rams have denied having an interest in trading Cook, but Davis has been a popular name being tossed around in speculative trade scenarios over the past few weeks.

Davis had been dealing with a knee injury, but he was able to suit up for tonight’s game.

Davis, 31, is in the final year of his six-year, $42.705 million contract that included $23 million guaranteed, and stands to make a base salary of $4.35 million for the 2015 season.

Davis would be one of the best available tight ends in next year’s free agent pool, but it’s unlikely that they’d get much more than a late-round pick for him.

This season, Davis has been limited to appearing in three games and recording eight receptions for 109 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the 49ers.

We’ll have more regarding potential trades involving Davis as the news is available.
