Report: Tension Exists Between Tom Brady & Pats’ Coaching Staff

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Patriots QB Tom Brady is “uncomfortable” with some of the team’s changes to personnel.

Mortensen adds that there has been some tension between Brady and the coaching staff as Brady reportedly doesn’t have the freedom to do as much at the line of scrimmage as he’s done in the past. On top of that, Brady has seen his say over things like game planning, pre-snap adjustments and personnel packages reduced this year.

Mortensen sources believe this could impact Brady’s future with the team.

Two separate sources told Mortensen that a quarterback change to rookie Jimmy Garoppolo could happen “sooner than later,” but there’s no guarantee that any move would be made this season.

The hot topic within the NFL media this week has the obvious struggles of Patriots’ offense following their disastrous performance against the Chiefs on Monday. Many have pointed to a lack of weapons and the poor play from the offensive line, but there is no question that Brady has not played as well as he has in the past.

Brady, 37, still has four years remaining on his contract with fairly reasonable base salaries and cap figures. Jason La Canfora mentioned earlier in the day that Brady’s salaries could make a “coveted commodity” around the league, but that’s just a speculative idea.

Over the course of four games, Brady has completed 59.1 percent of his passes for 791 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.
