Report: Kyle Orton Signing At The Certain Of Bills HC Doug Marrone’s Tension With Front Office

Update:

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting that the issue at the certain of the tension between Bills HC Doug Marrone and front office is related to the recent decision to sign veteran QB Kyle Orton to a contract.

According to Florio, Marrone isn’t happy about the move and that Orton’s contract implies that he could see playing time if first-round pick E.J. Manuel struggles this season.

Certainly the attention towards any struggles from Manuel this season will be ratcheted up now that they have spent an decent amount of money on Orton.

Florio mentions that it appears as though the coaching staff would rather bank on Manuel figuring things out rather than make a move at the first sign of trouble.

According to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, Bills director of player personnel Jim Monos wasn’t present for the reported spat with HC Doug Marrone.

Graham’s source added that Marrone’s “just fire me” comment happened over beers at a different time all together. The Bills are reportedly “laughing” about the article.

Meanwhile, Marrone has already responded to the report from CBS Sports.

Hey, did we have a discussion? Absolutely. I confirm that absolutely,” Marrone said, via Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550. “Are we great? We talk every day, three times a day. We talk about a lot of things. We’re competitive and I couldn’t be happier with those guys, I really couldn’t. And then the thing about Jim is great, too, because I was one of the ones that recommended Jim to come here. So there’s a lot of things in that that I think I’ll probably catch a lot of heat on from my friends because it’s just not true.

Marrone added that the situation has been way overblown.

It’s doubtful that Marrone would have came out and said the report was one percent accurate given that it doesn’t paint him in a favorable light, but that’s not to say that a number of details could be inaccurate.

The current Bills regime still enters the season with the added pressure of proving that they can continue to make strides as an organization while they continue to look for a new owner.

Jason La Canfora has a very interesting report regarding a situation that occurred at Bills before the end of the preseason.

According to La Canfora’s sources, tensions are starting to boil over between HC Doug Marrone and team’s front office, which led to shouting match that occurred on the practice field.

The incident reportedly started between Marrone and director of player personnel Jim Monos. However, as things started to get out of control, GM Doug Whaley later intervened, but that didn’t stop the expletives from being tossed at one another.

President and acting owner Russ Brandon tried to diffuse the situation that only escalated into more yelling with Marrone reportedly saying something to the effect of “go ahead and fire me.

Marrone hasn’t just had his issues with team officials. According to La Canfora, he has also made some comments that have “drawn the ire of some players,” particularly OLB Jerry Hughes.

The other issue brought up regarding Marrone is that he hasn’t given some players more opportunity including second-round pick OT Cyrus Kouandjio, WR Robert Woods and G Kraig Urbik.

Buffalo is in the process of being sold to a new owner, so there is a chance that sweeping changes could be coming next year.
