Report: Texans “Favoring” Jadeveon Clowney With The No. 1 Overall Pick

According to Mike Freeman of the Bleacher Report, multiple NFL team sources have informed him that the Texans are now “favoring” South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney with the No. 1 overall pick.

“We’ve never really seen anything like Clowney,” an official inside the Texans organization tells Freeman. “There’s the chance he could redefine the position the way Reggie White or Bruce Smith did.”

  • Freeman admits that there is a lot of smoke going around right now, which is to be expected given where we are in the NFL offseason.
  • Still, Freeman adds that people around the league believe the Texans are “starting to slowly fall in lust with Clowney.

Clowney lit up the Combine with a ridiculous forty time of 4.53 time. Freeman adds that Clowney also did well in interviews with NFL teams.

The Texans reportedly believe being around J.J. Watt would mitigate any concerns of him slacking off during the season. “No one gets around Watt and slacks,” a Texan official told Freeman.

Houston could obviously go with a quarterback at the top of round one, but there is no question that Clowney will remain in the discussion for the No. 1 overall pick. It would be incredible to see a tandem of Watt and Clowney getting after quarterbacks in the coming years.
