Report: Bill O’Brien Will Remain Penn State’s HC

Adam Caplan reports that the Bill O’Brien will in fact remain the head coach of Penn State.

This is great news for State College and Chip Kelly.

As if the asking price wasn’t high enough for Kelly’s services, the fact that O’Brien will not be available will only increase the competition for the most pursued coach on the market. The Browns, Eagles and Bills are all vying for Kelly, but we should know more about the situation this weekend.

SI’s Pete Thamel reports that Penn State is making a “massive push” to keep head coach Bill O’Brien from leaving for the NFL.

The college has reportedly “received positive indications that he’s strongly considering staying,” but it’s worth noting that O’Brien did meet with the Browns at some point this week.

Thamel’s source mentioned that Penn State is “tugging at O’Brien’s heartstrings and attachment to the school that gave him his break to be a head coach.”

A number of NFL insiders have chimed in on the subject and the general consensus is that O’Brien will most likely return to State College next season.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns already interviewed Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien this, according to her source.

Cabot adds that Cleveland also met with Syracuse’s Doug Marrone on Thursday.

The Browns and Eagles are reported to have interest in the former Patriots’ offensive coordinator, but both teams are also pursuing Oregon head coach Chip Kelly, so it will be interesting to see where things stand following their meeting with Kelly in Arizona.

O’Brien still seems to be a fallback option at this point in time. The Chargers and Cardinals could also look to setup a meeting with him at some point.
