Report: The Lions Are Making Calls To Find A RB

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew has been calling around in the hopes of trading for a running back.

There’s been a lot of speculation that Ryan Grant could be an option for the Lions, but Detroit has shown very little interest in him. Kevin Smith is currently dealing with a ankle injury and Mikel Leshoure is coming off of a torn Achilles tendon. Jahvid Best was placed on the PUP yesterday, so he’ll be out for the first six games of the season.

Adding some depth to their backfield does make a lot of sense, but it’s really hard to say who could be available at this point. Detroit could always wait until this weekend to grab some players off of waivers.
