Report: Titans Expected To Retain Chris Johnson Next Season

Jason La Canfora reports that the Tennessee Titans intend to exercise RB Chris Johnson‘s contract that will pay him $10 million in 2013.

La Canfora adds that $9 million of Johnson’s salary will be guaranteed as of February 9th.

The Titans have maintained all along that they planned on keeping Johnson next season. There was, however, plenty of speculation that he could be released given the guarantees in his contract, but doesn’t appear to be the case.

Johnson, 27, was able to go over the 1,000 yard mark for the fifth time in as many seasons, but there are questions as to whether or not he’s still same player he was a few years ago. Pro Football Focus actually rated him as the second worst qualifying running back this season, which further illustrates these concerns.

Tennessee figures to revamp their offensive line this year, so it’s safe to assume that Johnson will be entering a make-or-break season in 2013.
