Titans Receive Good News Regarding QB Jake Locker, Expected To Miss A Few Weeks

Update:

The Tennessee Titans announced on Tuesday that QB Jake Locker has a sprained hip and the team expects him to miss a few weeks.

“We received reassuring reports from the second MRI today and they confirmed that there was no major damage to Jake Locker’s hip joint – it is classified as a sprained hip. The area will need time to heal and strengthen, but he won’t require surgery and he has already begun a rehab routine for both his hip and knee. We certainly would expect him to miss a few weeks, but we are encouraged by the news today.”

Albert Breer tweets the “most likely scenario” for Locker is that he misses Tennessee’s next three games and returns after their Week 8 bye.

Breer adds that Locker could return sooner than that, but the Titans see a Week 9 return as “logical.”

The Titans announced on Monday that QB Jake Locker will undergo another MRI on Tuesday, which should determine a more concrete timetable for his return.

HC Mike Munchak mentioned on Monday that Locker is not done for the season. We’ll have to see how the next MRI goes before getting a better idea of his timetable.

Ian Rapoport reports that the Titans are likely to place QB Jake Locker on injured reserve with the designation to return.

  • Rapoport adds that should Tennessee place him on IR with the designation to return, Locker would be back for Week 13 at earliest.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Titans QB Jake Locker could be out for 4-8 weeks following the hip injury he suffered during Sunday’s win over the Jets.

HC Mike Munchak told reporters after the game that an initial look at Locker’s injury didn’t show that his hip had popped out out of the socket, which is obviously a great sign.

The Titans are still waiting for more test results to come in regarding Locker’s injury, but it appears as though Ryan Fitzpatrick will be their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. It’s worth pointing out that the Titans have a much harder stretch of games ahead of them. They get the Chiefs in Week 5 and then the Seahawks and 49ers in Weeks 6 and 7.

Fitzpatrick finished Sunday’s game 3-of-8 for 108 yards and one touchdown.
