Report: Titans QB Marcus Mariota Could Miss 3-4 Weeks With MCL Injury

Update:

According to Rand Getlin of NFL Network, the Titans “aren’t ready” to rule QB Marcus Mariota out of Week 7’s game “just yet.”

One source close to Mariota even went on to say, “it’s going to take a lot to keep him from playing.”

Ultimately, the Titans would like to evaluate Mariota’s movement during practice this week before making a judgment on his eligibility.

Jason Cole of B/R reports confirms reports from Monday night that Titans rookie QB Marcus Mariota has a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee.

Even though this injury is not expected to require surgery, Cole mentions that Mariota could miss between 3-4 weeks in order for his knee to be fully heal. With this in mind, Cole expects the Titans to hold Mariota not only out of Week 7’s game, but possibly a few weeks after.

According to Cole, the fact that the Titans have Zach Mettenberger as their backup quarterback will likely lead to them being very cautious with the No. 2 overall pick.

The other benefit of going with Mettenberger while Mariota is out with his knee injury is that it could also boost his trade value.

This season, Mariota has thrown for 1,239 yards while completing 63.9 percent of his passes to go along with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s also added 72 yards rushing over the course of five games.

We’ll have more regarding Mariota’s status as the news is available.
