The Tennessee Titans have officially placed the franchise tag on FS Michael Griffin as expected.
Previous reports mentioned that the Titans identified Bengals S Reggie Nelson as a possible replacement should they lose Griffin but that’s no longer a concern. As we’ve previously mentioned, this opens the door for CB Cortland Finnegan to hit the open market.
The move will cost Tennessee $6.2 million for the upcoming season but it prevents them from having to replace him on the open market.
It’s an interest move considering that many see CB Cortland Finnegan as the move valuable player but using the tag on him would have ran the team an extra $3.8 million for the upcoming season. Finnegan will now test the market which should have plenty of interest in his services.
