Report: University Of Florida To Reach Out To Chip Kelly

According to Mark Farzetta of CBS Philly, the University of Florida will contact Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly as early as Tuesday to gauge his interest in coaching the Gators.

  • Mike Florio of NBC Sports adds that Kelly’s 18-month show cause order stemming from NCAA violations while at the University of Oregon is set to expire on Christmas Day.
  • Florio also notes that it is unclear if Kelly’s contract allows him to leave.

Conspicuously absent is any report that Kelly has interest in leaving the Eagles for any job, collegiate or otherwise.  Considering the level of control the Eagles gave him however, it seems likely that Kelly had enough leverage to negotiate some flexibility.

Kelly has stated in the past that he has no interest in returning to college, but we know that such statements are rarely ironclad.

Florida fired its Head Coach Will Muschamp nine games through the season, though he was permitted to coach the final two regular season games.

The Eagles seem to be ascending, though Kelly will undoubtedly want to stabilize the quarterback position.  Regardless, it would likely take a monumental offer from Florida to pry him away from Philadelphia.

Kelly holds a 19-9 record with the Eagles.
