- La Canfora mentions that Winfield would like to play for a contender, but the Vikings have been in contact with him in recent weeks.

Winfield, 36, was released by Minnesota months ago, but landed with the Seattle Seahawks only to be released again. Winfield reportedly informed the Seahawks that he intended to retire.
While he was able to put together a very strong season for the Vikings in 2012, it’s hard to say whether or not he could produce at that level again. Minnesota wasn’t willing to close to the door on bringing Winfield back at some point, and they probably make the most sense given his experience with their defensive scheme.
