Report: Veteran CB Antoine Winfield Hasn’t Filed Retirement Papers

Sean Jenson of the Pioneer Press reports that former Vikings CB Antoine Winfield hasn’t filed his retirement papers with the league.

“Any time a player of his stature makes that choice, you want to give them some time to make sure they’re at peace with that decision,” said Winfield’s agent Ashanti Webb. “I mean, there’s no rush.”

Winfield, 36, was released by Minnesota months ago, but landed with the Seattle Seahawks only to be released again. Winfield reportedly informed the Seahawks that he intended to retire.

While he was able to put together a very strong season for the Vikings in 2012, it’s hard to say whether or not he could produce at that level again. Minnesota wasn’t willing to close to the door on bringing Winfield back at some point, and they probably make the most sense given his experience with their defensive scheme.
