Antoine Winfield Visiting Seahawks Monday, Vikings “Making A Strong Push”

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that free agent CB Antoine Winfield will visit with the Seahawks on Monday.

Rapoport adds that the Vikings are still in the picture and are “making a strong push” to re-sign him. Minnesota is reportedly still trying to mend fences after releasing him back in March.

Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier mentioned that the two sides are still in contact with one another.

“We all like to know we’re wanted,” Frazier said Sunday. “I’ve tried to make that clear to him. I’ll let him know, ‘If you’ve got any questions, you know how to reach me.‘”

The Redskins and Broncos are believed to also be in the picture to some degree.

We have Winfield listed as the No. 5 player in our recently updated Best Available Free Agents list.

Update:

Sean Jensen reports that free agent CB Antoine Winfield is expected to meet with the Seahawks at some point next week.

Winfield has drawn interest from the Vikings, Redskins and Broncos, but this is the first we’ve regarding Seattle possibly being an option.

The Seahawks already have as deep of a secondary as any team in the league, so the addition of Winfield would make for a very formidable unit. We’ll have to see if they end up showing serious interest in adding Winfield for depth.

Update:

Dan Wiederer reports that free agent CB Antoine Winfield is unlikely to sign with a team this week and adds that the Vikings are “still in the mix.”

A report from Mike Jones of the Washington Post indicated that the Redskins are still interested in Winfield, despite re-signing DeAngelo Hall on Monday and having very little cap space to worth with.

Update:

Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins are still interested in free agent CB Antoine Winfield despite re-signing DeAngelo Hall on Monday.

“There is high mutual interest,” said a source. “Re-signing Hall didn’t change that.”

Before re-signing Hall, the Redskins close to $1 million in cap room, but Washington reportedly has a plan in place to add the necessary cap space to sign Winfield.

The Redskins also signed E.J. Biggers earlier in the offseason, but they could still use a slot corner like Winfield. Winfield has been on vacation in recent days. The Broncos and Vikings have also been linked to Winfield.

Update:

Jason La Canfora reports that the Broncos are also interested in free agent CB Antoine Winfield.

La Canfora adds that Washington faces “real cap issues” that could leave them at a real disadvantage when it comes to signing Winfield.

Washington just re-signed TE Fred Davis to a one-year deal, which complicates their financial situation even further.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Redskins are putting the “full-court press” on Winfield.
  • Tom Pelissero mentions that he doesn’t see Winfield re-signing with the Vikings for the less money.
  • Pelissero adds that Minnesota and Winfield’s representatives have been in “daily communication” since he was released a few weeks ago.

A recent report from Mike Jones of the Washington Post indicated that Winfield is considering offers from “at least two other teams” and met with the Redskins on Wednesday.

Update:

Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that free agent CB Antoine Winfield is considering offers from “at least two other teams” ahead of his visit with the Redskins on Wednesday.

Jones mentions that Winfield could accept one of the offers before even meeting with Washington, but expectations are that he’ll end up visiting with the team on Wednesday.

The Vikings are known to have interest in Winfield, but it will be interesting to see who else is involved.

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that the free agent CB Antoine Winfield is scheduled to visit with the Redskins on Wednesday.

Rapoport mentions that the Vikings are still talking with him about a possible return, but there are reportedly 1-2 other teams with interest in Winfield at this point in time.

Chris Russell mentions that Washington has been in contact with Winfield’s reps for two weeks now.

————-

Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 Twin Cities reports that league sources have informed him that the Vikings have met with Antoine Winfield‘s agent about re-signing the veteran cornerback.

“I’m hoping that we can figure out a way to get him back here,” said head coach Leslie Frazier. “So, I’m hoping that it’s not goodbye yet.

A decision to re-sign Winfield will ultimately come down to his asking price, but the Vikings appear to be optimistic about bringing him back.

Him and I talked a few days ago, before I came up here, and I don’t want the door to be shut,” Frazier said. “So, we’re going to still try to get something worked out — if he’s amicable to coming back.”

Pelissero adds that Winfield has already setup “multiple visits” with other NFL teams.

Winfield, 35, hasn’t drawn a lot of interest, despite being rated as the No. 1 overall cornerback in the league last year by Pro Football Focus. Minnesota could use some additional depth at corner and his experience is obviously an added plus.
