Vikings Officially Release TE John Carlson

Update:

———-
Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reports that the Vikings are releasing veteran TE John Carlson.

  • Garafolo adds that the two sides had been discussing a restructured contract, but were unfortunately able reach an agreement.
  • Tom Pelissero reports that Carlson’s release is expected to happen on Wednesday.

Carlson, 29, signed Carlson to a  five-year, $25 million contract that included $9.1 million guaranteed with the Vikings back in 2012. He had a base salary of $3.9 million for the 2014 season and would have counted $5 million against the team’s salary cap.

  • According to OverTheCap.com, Minnesota will free up $2 million cap space with this move.

Last year, Carlson totaled 32 receptions for 344 yards receiving and a touchdown over the course of 13 games.
