Report: Vikings Hire Norv Turner As Their New Offensive Coordinator

Update:

Jason La Canfora reports that the Vikings have officially wrapped up their negotiations with Norv Turner and he will be their next offensive coordinator.

  • Albert Breer reports that the Vikings have also hired George Edwards as their defensive coordinator.

Minnesota’s new coaching staff appears to be quite impressive given that Mike Zimmer and Turner are among the most respected coaches in the game. Zimmer has said that he may end up calling the defense next year, but he intends to see how things go during the preseason before making anything official.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that as soon as Turner’s deal with Vikings is reached, he’s expected to bring his son Scott Turner with him as the team’s quarterbacks coach.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Vikings received permission to interview Browns OC Norv Turner regarding their offensive coordinator position.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Browns have granted the Vikings permission to speak with Turner.

Previous reports have indicated that Turner could be an option to join Mike Zimmer’s coaching staff in Minnesota. The Browns will reportedly allow Turner to interview for lateral positions, despite the fact that they could always block him from doing so.

Turner has been an extremely successful offensive coordinator throughout his career, so adding him would be a great move by Zimmer and the Vikings.

We’ll have more regarding the Vikings coordinator positions as the news is available.
