Report: Vikings Willing To Stick With Christian Ponder This Season “If He Wins”

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that if Vikings QB Christian Ponder is able win some games, he will remain the team’s starter this season.

  • Rapoport adds that there is no guarantee that Ponder will hold the job for the remainder of the season.

Ponder finished last weekend’s game against the Cowboys completing 25 of 37 passes for 236 yards, one touchdown, an interception and a fumble lost. He also contributed a rushing touchdown of his own.

Minnesota’s only win of the season came with Matt Cassel as their starting quarterback and he’s not even in the discussion for the job. The Vikings signed Josh Freeman to a one-year deal with the intention of giving him a shot, so Ponder will need to start winning games to prevent Freeman from taking over.

The Vikings are up against the Redskins tonight, so we should have a much better idea of how this situation will play out in matter of hours.
