Von Miller Receives A Six-Game Suspension

Update:

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Broncos LB Von Miller will be suspended for six games for violating the league’s substance policy.

  • Miller’s suspension will cost him $806,000 in 2013 salary. (Andrew Brandt)

Here’s a statement provided by Von Miller regarding his recent suspension:

“The Substances of Abuse policy requires everyone to comply with the rules. Although my suspension doesn’t result from a positive test, there is no excuse for my violations of the rules. I made mistakes and my suspension has hurt my team, Broncos fans, and myself. I am especially sorry for the effect of my bad decisions on others. I will not make the same mistakes about adhering to the policy in the future. During my time off the field, I will work tirelessly and focus exclusively on remaining in peak shape. I look forward to contributing immediately upon my return to the field and bringing a championship back to the people of Denver.

Miller will miss games against the Ravens, Giants, Raiders, Eagles, Cowboys and Jaguars.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Broncos LB Von Miller likely will be suspended as soon as today for at least six games.

  • Mortensen adds that Miller is still hoping to reduce his suspension to the original four games.
  • According to Mortensen, there’s “not lot of optimism” in Denver right now, but talks are currently ongoing.
  • Albert Breer tweets that he’s getting the sense that the six-game suspension might be a reduction from eight.
  • Ian Rapoport notes that Miller could face banishment if he were to test positive for a third time.

Miller recently appealed his suspension for violating the league’s substance policy, but this is the first news we’ve heard on this topic since then. Miller was recently arrested for failing to appear in court for traffic charges.

The Broncos defense lost Elvis Dumervil during free agency and fellow defensive end Derek Wolfe suffered what appeared to be a pretty serious injury Saturday night.

We’ll have more as the news is available.
