A Return To The Giants A Possibility For DE Osi Umenyiora?

Mike Garafolo reported on Thursday that the Falcons have approached veteran DE Osi Umenyiora regarding a pay cut, so there is a chance that he could be cut loose after just one year in Atlanta.

Conor Orr of The Star-Ledger, citing two people familiar with the situation, reports that the Giants “would at least investigate” the idea of bringing Umenyiora back if he ends up being available.

The Giants could really use some help at defensive end, and to make matters worse, Justin Tuck will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming days.

Umenyiora, 32, signed a two-year deal worth $8.5 million that included $5 million guaranteed last year. He will make $3.5 million for the 2014 season, but has a $500, 000 roster bonus due on March 25.

  • The Falcons could free up $3.5 million by releasing him, according to OverTheCap.com.

In his first year with the team, he produced 47 tackles, 7.5 sacks an interception and three forced fumbles.

We’ll have more regarding Umenyiora as the news is available.
