Rex Grossman Still An Option For The Browns?

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, “don’t be shocked if the long-awaited reunion between Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and quarterback Rex Grossman finally happens.”

The idea of the Browns possibly signing Grossman has been floating around for several months and stems from the fact that he has spent a lot of time working with Shanahan.

Cleveland has their top-two quarterbacks in place with first-round pick Johnny Manziel and veteran Brian Hoyer competing for the starting job this summer. The Browns signed veterans Tyler Thigpen and Vince Young shortly before the draft, but released Young shortly after the draft concluded.

South Carolina QB Connor Shaw signed as an undrafted free agent, so he could end up on the team’s practice squad in early September.

Even with the obvious connection between Grossman and Shanahan, it’s hard to put a lot of stock in Cleveland bringing him in. He hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2011 and there is an argument to be made that Thigpen and Shaw are better No. 3 options for the Browns right now and moving forward.

I’m sure we’ll hear more regarding this idea in the coming days.
